Fairy tales are famous for the number three,
There’s a villain and a hero you will see.
In fables animals teach you a lesson about traits,
There’s a moral, a proverb, some trickery of fates.

Tall tales are filled with exaggerated feats,
Problems solved with humor are part of the treat.
Myths and legends are tales where nature is involved,

Myths have gods; legends may use beasts to be solved.

Science fiction is out of this world
It’s weird, eerie, a bit unfurled.
Time travel, robots, futuristic being,
It could never happen, it’s unforeseen.

Mystery is a story that solves a crime
It unravels a secret just in time.
There are clues given along the way,
It suspenseful and engaging one might say.

Poetry can rhyme but it may be free verse,
There is a message or a feeling, it can be rehearsed.
Fantasy is a genre where imaginations fly,
Suspension of reality and other worldliness run high.

Historical fiction can seem so real,
It’s familiar in one sense of the deal.
You may know some of the characters and the location
Some facts are true and some are a fabrication

Realistic fiction is just how it sounds,
It could happen or really be found.
It’s like real life in all its glory,
Some facts are made up to create a story.

A short story has the elements of fiction
You’ll find no subplots there, just prediction.
An essay tell a story and there’s a little twist,
It includes the author viewpoint, outlook, in the gist.

Horror is scary and a very frightening sight,
There may be gore and dread in the dark of night.
Humor is funny and silly as can be,
It will make you laugh, you’d probably agree.
